What a place Brunswick, GA is and it's surroundings. We had an awesome experience there. I was not aware of the history that Brunswick is built coming from the "very young" Northwest of the country. It was once a haven for the rich and famous on Jekyll Island where we stayed. The first telephone call in the country was connected at Jekyll Island. The following is a bit of history taken from the Jekyll Island blog:
AT&T President Theodore Newton Vail also put Jekyll Island, Georgia onto the map when, thanks to his participation, it became a part of telephone history.
On January 25, 1915, the words “Hello, Jekyll Island,” reverberated across the phone lines, as Vail joined a party phone call with President Woodrow Wilson in Washington, DC, Alexander Graham Bell in New York, and Thomas Watson in San Francisco. This thrilling moment marked the ceremonial grand opening of the first transcontinental telephone service."
We appreciated our concert in Brunswick held at the Glynn Academy. The Dorsey's were wonderful hosts. The concert was well attended.
The most fascinating thing of all for me was the Roslyn Rench was in attendance. She is the most respected harp historian for all harpists. She has written an extremely well written book called "Harps and Harpists" that I was carrying in the car underneath my seat. Anything one would like to know about the harp is in her book. Rosyln and her friend Jim treated us to a very nice lunch the following day and invited us into Roslyn's home to see her incredible harps.
" I don't have a problem with envy except in the realm of harps. She has the most exquisite harp ever made in the modern day called a Louis the 14th harp made by Lyon and Healy. We had a great time in Brunswick and it's surroundings.
